Be part of a winning team
Jesus said "Follow me." As part of his team, we are to follow his example. We are to be peacemakers with sober judgment about ourselves and others, while at the same time, we are to be strong and courageous, consistently striving to make an impact on the world. We aim for a depth of character not unlike King David or Jesus' disciples who, though they faltered at times, weren't afraid to live by a different standard, take big risks, and achieve unmatched success. In doing so, we become examples of what Jesus taught. We also find a deep, satisfying joy and fulfillment that is unmatched by anything else.
The act of following can be hard. We seem naturally bent to want to do things our own way. In fact, all the qualities that Jesus would like us to have seem to be unnatural. Our culture reinforces the need to obtain power, status, and wealth regardless of the means or cost. At work, school, home, church, and other activities, we are driven to "give 110%." We soon find that there is very little time for Jesus, that we are lacking the qualities we'd like and the lasting peace we desire.
"Choose Jesus 2008" highlights a couple of simple questions -- "Who do you follow?" and "Where do you place your hope?" If Jesus is your choice, then you are part of a winning team! Connecting with others who are excited about following Jesus better through Bible reading, prayer, and reaching outside themselves can bring you support and encouragement. We invite you to visit Intentional Ministries' site (
www.intentional.com) where an on-line community is being built for those who Choose Jesus.
Freedom and responsibility
The Jesus 2008 campaign points out that Jesus is a candidate you can choose for leadership in your own life. We also want to celebrate the freedom, responsibility, and privilege of taking part in choosing the leadership for our country. Make sure you get out and vote for the politicians who best represent the values you believe in.
